Considerations for Purchasing Fine Art

QUALITY: How does the quality of the work under consideration compare to other artwork produced with the artist's body of work? What period and subject matter is most sought after and valued the highest?

CONDITION: Is the overall condition excellent, good, fair, poor, or bad?  As studied under black light has the painting had conservation or restoration?  If so, to what extent, and with what degree of professionalism?

AUTHENTICITY: Is the painting under consideration authentic?

PROVENANCE: What specific history relating to the artwork is available?  Is this history accurate recorded information or subjective speculation?
