Our President and Owner

In 1985, after 10 years in the American art museum world, realizing that not enough time was actually spent with the art, Jeff Mitchell launched Mitchell Brown Fine Art.  Over the years Jeff has become well known for the outstanding quality of his curatorial knowledge in working with a wide range of collectors.  Our clients are a diverse group, from the first time buyer to those wanting to refine the quality of an extensive collection.  Clients often express their appreciation for our confidentiality and the ease of working with experienced professionals.

We acquire and sell most areas of American art.  We are strongly associated with artists who painted in the American West, particularly during the first half of the 20th century, such as the early Taos and Santa Fe painters, and including the Modernists and California Plein Air painters, as well as Eastern schools.  Most importantly, the works of Maynard Dixon have always been prominent in our inventory.

Each painting in our inventory is carefully researched regarding biographical information about the artist, exhibition history, historical context, and relevance within the artist's career.  We guarantee the authenticity of every painting that we sell. Referrals of the highest quality are made for specialized needs in the areas of appraisals, conservation, framing and other curatorial services.
We also exhibit a number of accomplished living artists whose work is characterized by a contemporary representational approach.
